Ramadan, the Islamic Holy Month began at sundown on Monday, April 12 and will end on May 12, and Muslims who observe the month-long holiday by fasting during daylight hours, which in some years starts as early as 6 am and ends as late as 9 pm. This often conflicts with many restaurants' regular business hours. Dine After Dark, a nonprofit organization on a mission to build inclusive communities, works with restaurants to celebrate and promote Ramadan dining options.
Dine After Dark has released its 2021 Dine Directory of restaurants participating in the nonprofit organization’s celebration of Ramadan this year. Due to the ongoing pandemic, restaurants participating in this year’s festivities will, like last year, not be offering extended holiday business hours for Muslim customers who observe the tradition by fasting from dawn to dusk. Instead, Dine After Dark is once again focusing on promoting halal-friendly options for carry-out and delivery via the organization’s online ordering portal and encouraging safe holiday celebrations.
“As we prepare for our second celebration of Ramadan under COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and protocols, we recognize the challenges still facing both our Member Businesses and our customers this holiday season,” says Dine After Dark’s President and Founder, Katherine Ashworth Brandt. “Therefore, we have made the difficult decision to modify Dine After Dark’s celebration of Ramadan for the second year in a row to forego offering extended holiday hours. Instead, we plan to support our participating restaurants and customers by offering halal carry-out and delivery options, so we can all celebrate Ramadan safely.”
