Get colorful, fresh, flavorful salads delivered to your doorstep by an all-women team of urban farmers

Little Wild Things Farm is a grower of microgreens, salad greens, shoots and edible flowers, all soil-grown on less than one-quarter acre in the heart of Washington, D.C. Founded in 2014 by Mary Ackley, a diplomat-turned-farmer, who left a career in international development to pursue her dream of starting an urban farm. She started the largely wholesale-focused business in the basement of Bloomingdale's beloved Pub and the People.

Almost seven years later, the farm is thriving and has given new life to a 4,000 square foot former parking garage in the H St. Corridor, but the business (and the rest of the world) don’t look quite how Mary initially imagined.  As the premier grower of microgreens, shoots, and edible flowers in the D.C.-area, Little Wild Things has pivoted from serving primarily restaurants to offering home delivery of locally-grown salads and greens to hundreds of households across the Washington, D.C. region through their new Salad Share program.

Each week of the seasonal Salad Share program features a rotating selection of super-fresh, nutritious greens to make one week of colorful, flavorful salads, delivered to your doorstep by Little Wild Things’ all-women team of urban farmers. The Salad Share also features fun seasonal surprises and unique collaborations with other local businesses. Recent examples include vegan cookies featuring Little Wild Things’ signature edible flowers, women-made salad dressings to pair with their greens, mini-DIY gourmet Hawaiin rice ball kits from woman-owned local favorite Lei Musubi, and handmade floral tea lights. The Winter Salad Share season runs for 10-weeks from January 27th to March 31st.  Customers can learn more and more and sign up at www.littlewildthingsfarm.com/salad-share and new subscribers can use the code “EDIBLEDC” for $20 off their share.

In addition to home delivery, Little Wild Things is offering a lower-priced pick-up option at several convenient neighborhood hubs across the region: Bloomingdale/LeDroit Park (Northwest DC), Trinidad (Northeast DC), Capitol Hill (Southeast DC), Chevy Chase/Bethesda (MD), Takoma Park, MD (at The Girl & The Vine), and Alexandria, VA (at Lost Boy Cider).

Each purchase supports Little Wild Things’ mission to inspire the next generation of farmers to build a brighter and more sustainable agricultural future. The farm also donates one share in their NE DC neighborhood of Trinidad for every 20 shares sold.

Ackley says, “We lost 90% business when the COVID-19 crisis started. We’re so thankful for the support of our community through the new salad share program, which has allowed us not only to survive, but to thrive through this difficult year. Farming brings us joy, and this new program allows us to be more creative than ever. We hope to share a little bit of our joyful farming spirit, and delight our customers with every delivery.”
