As regional farmers begin to prepare their fields for winter and the tables at the farmers market fill with beautiful arrays of apples, pears, squash, and root vegetables, FRESHFARM honors the bounty of the Mid-Atlantic region with the annual FRESHFARM Feast!

On Tuesday, October 29th, the nonprofit organization will host their signature fundraising dinner at The Line Hotel to support their efforts to grow local, sustainable food systems.

In its second year under the leadership of Chef Spike Gjerde, the evening begins with a private reception at A Rake's Progress. The all-local menu of artisan hors d'oeuvres and craft cocktails was a major highlight of last year’s Feast and features the best seasonal ingredients available in our region.

For dinner, Chef Spike will be joined by a cast of local all-star chefs for an unforgettable meal, prepared with ingredients from FRESHFARM’s network of Mid-Atlantic farmers. Participating chefs include Opie Crooks and Beth Bosmeny of A Rake's Progress, Kyle Bailey of The Salt Line, Jerome Grant of Sweet Home Café at NMAAHC, Johanna Hellrigl, Michael Rafidi of Albi, and Rob Rubba of Oyster Oyster. Washington, DC is home to one of the greatest dining scenes in the nation due in large part to its diversity, and this incredible group of chefs reflects that diversity.

Dinner is followed by a live and silent auction, which includes unforgettable travel opportunities, Broadway theater tickets, unique dining experiences, fine wines and spirits, and more! Even better, all funds raised will support FRESHFARM’s work to build community around healthy, local food. Place your bids on a Portland, Oregon & Willamette Valley wine lovers getaway, including two nights in Downtown Portland and four nights at a vineyard in wine country. Or perhaps you’d rather eat your way through New Orleans with three nights in one of the top culinary destinations in the country -- laissez les bon temps rouler! And of course, there are plenty of local delights to bid on, including an Eastern Shore culinary weekend, dinners at DC’s Michelin-starred restaurants, and farmers market goodies.

FRESHFARM has been working to grow the local food scene in the DC area since the opening of their first producer-only farmers market in Dupont Circle in 1997. Since then, their work has grown to include 15 markets across the DC area; as well as the FoodPrints education program in 15 DC Public Schools, which uses an academic approach to teach over 5,700 students how to grow, harvest, cook, and enjoy fresh, healthy foods. FRESHFARM works to build bridges between the family farms of the Mid-Atlantic and the urban communities of the DC area, and the Feast helps advance this important work.
