The Gibson Fall/Winter Preview

by Raisa Aziz

Known for it’s dim, sultry lighting and excellent cocktails, the Gibson is a hidden gem tucked away in plain sight on 14th and U Street. It is distinctive in its ambience and well-loved for its staff’s attention to craft and flavor. We recently spent the evening sampling the Fall/Winter menu in their patio area, made cozy by both the fire and seasonal drinks. Between the familiar, warming spices and the woodsy scent of the fire, it was an immediate sensory propulsion into the holiday season. In addition to indoor seating (think elegant booths and candle-lit interiors), their patio will now be open all Fall and Winter with an exclusive outdoor menu featuring hot toddies, milkshakes, ciders and classic beverages. We highly recommend you go.

A few crowd favorites include ...da Pain Away (a smooth blend of Laphroaig 10 year whiskey, Vanilla Liqueur, Carpano Antica, Chocolate and decanter Bitters), The Man I Forgot I Loved (a surprising blend of gin, bourbon, kummel and orange bitters), Vacancy (a classy affair with Cocci Americano, Cynar, Sherry, Wild Turkey 101 and Peychaud’s Bitters), The Cat’s Meow (the most unlikely and delicious combination of red wine, rum, champagne, vanilla and lime - just trust them on this one!), and Jupiter (Champagne, Peychaud’s Bitters, Absinthe and sugar cube).

When you do go, make sure to ask for the story behind the cocktail you order. The bartenders are by far the most well-informed and quirky in DC and every drink has its own tale. It’s just all part of the charm.

Open daily from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
