The FRESHFARM Feast is going virtual this year! FRESHFARM will host their annual Feast fundraising dinner on Friday, November 13, featuring Marcelle Afram, Executive Chef of two celebrated DC restaurants: Compass Rose and Michelin-starred Maydan. Don’t miss this free event, and learn some tips and tricks from the Maydan and Compass Rose kitchens!

Gather your quaran-team on Friday, November 13 at 7 pm and join Chef Marcelle virtually in front of the Maydan hearth to learn a recipe for fatayer, or Lebanese hand pies, using local, seasonal ingredients from the farmers in the FRESHFARM network. The next day, put what you learned into action and have the Feast come to you! Order a Feast Market Box and get everything you need to make Chef Marcelle’s fatayer, including a copy of the recipe, the link to Chef’s Marcelle demo, recipe ingredients, and extra farmers market treats including olives, feta cheese, honey, olive oil, and more. Boxes will be delivered to homes in DC, Maryland, and Virginia within the I-945 Beltway on Saturday, November 14.

During Chef Marcelle’s recipe demo, Feast participants will have the opportunity to learn more about FRESHFARM’s work in response to COVID-19 and donate to support the organization over the course of the evening. “We are thrilled to partner with Chef Afram, who is widely admired in the DC restaurant scene, to virtually celebrate our local food system,” says FRESHFARM Executive Director Hugo Mogollon. ”For years, the annual Feast has been a FRESHFARM tradition that offered us the opportunity to sit around the table with friends and supporters. This year, we are excited to come around Chef Afram’s live fire at Maydan in a virtual, free format while raising critical funds to continue supporting farmers and neighbors who benefit from our programs.”

The Feast raises important funds to support FRESHFARM’s mission to promote sustainable agriculture and improve food access and equity in the Mid-Atlantic region. Throughout the pandemic, FRESHFARM has pivoted to keep farmers markets safe and operational and to deliver fresh produce directly to the homes of thousands of the region’s most vulnerable seniors and families. “During all times, but especially now, I think it’s so important to help support local farms and producers,” says Chef Afram. “Throughout my career I’ve strived to support as much locally as possible, and being a part of the Feast has me particularly excited because of the opportunity to showcase ways to utilize amazing local products.”
