BREAKING NEWS: Giant Foods and Whole Foods announced today that stores will open one hour early to accomodate the social distancing needs of the 60+ and high risk populations. Giant will be open from 6 am to 7 am daily, starting Friday, March 20. WFM will open one hour earlier as well, check store opening times in your area or call the store.
NEWS: Effective at 10 p.m. Monday, March 16, all D.C. bars, restaurants, and nightclubs must close their businesses to customers through April 1. They are permitted to continue serving food through pick-up and delivery methods. This list was updated Tuesday, March 17 at 10 p.m. We are trying to keep up with demand. Hang in there DC!

Hello community. As we all follow the latest updates on the COVID-19 virus, the hospitality industry has tried to make sense of what business can look like in a world where people are staying home. Literally hundreds of restaurants, cafes and more are now offering curbside pickup and delivery, some have temporarily closed. We are sharing a list that we have updated the past three days. Clearly, this is only a fraction of establishments, please reach out to your own favorite places to find out what is happening. Farm Markets - UPDATE
As of Monday, March 16, large winter farm markets run by FRESHFARM (Silver, Spring, Dupont and Mosaic) and Central Farm Markets (Bethesda) will be OPEN. Note that: The Bethesda Central Farm Market will move to North Bethesda to a parking lot across the street from the Marriott Conference Center at 5992 Executive Blvd, North Bethesda, MD 20852, because the school is closed, and without special exeption, they cannot use that space. Stay tuned and we will update you if that changes. If you are in an area with a winter farm market, check their FB page or other social media to receive updates.
Thursday, March 19, the Riverdale Park Farmers Market will be open from 3 pm to 7 pm. It’s located next to the Riverdale MARC station between Hyattsville and college park.
Also, the Takoma Park Farmers Market will be open on Sunday, March 22, from 10am to 2 pm. From the market: “We will continue the following good practices: To reduce risk, our farmers and vendors are wearing gloves and increasing hand-washing throughout the day. We’ll also not be offering samples. We encourage market goers to follow the same good practices. ****We strongly encourage our customers to shop quickly, practice social distancing while walking through the market or standing in line and to stay home if they are not feeling well.” Please come out and support your local farmers.

The Capital Area Food Bank has the scale and infrastructure to respond in times of emergency, but because of COVID-19, the food bank can no longer count on hundreds of thousands of pounds of donated food from retailers, so in anticipation of the increased need throughout the region and has had to buy additional truckloads of food. Donate here to help feed people in the DC area.
This organization is currently recovering food from cancelled events, closing offices and facilities, and other establishments (like restaurants) with excess food becoming available during this time. Our partner social service agencies have needs and we are working together to help those impacted by these uncertain times, including families and children impacted by these various closures.

Recognizing that many DC residents live in food deserts with limited access to delivery options, Little Sesame will join the emergency response by dropping fresh meals with the help of their partner, Dreaming out Loud, to people in need. Michelin-starred Chef Nicholas Stefanelli has launched a new delivery program from his fine dining restaurant, Masseria, to serve Washington D.C. do everything he can to provide his team members with regular work hours. Called Masseria a Casa, this delivery operation will serve guests with Michelin-starred meals from Masseria’s home to their front door. Launching Tuesday (3/17), Masseria will deliver seven days per week from 4-6 p.m. with a new menu each week, current menu here, including the option of having a wine bottle paired with their meal and an option to upgrade to one of Masseria’s signature vintages. Even better, the entire Masseria staff—including Chef Stefanelli himself—will be hand delivering these meals, using the restaurant’s catering van, their personal cars, and even a Vespa. In response to the increasing risk of COVID-19 and to encourage social distancing, Chef José Andrés announced over the weekend that he would be closing the majority of his restaurants in D.C. and New York. On Tuesday, many of the restaurants will re-open as “community kitchens” with limited takeout menus available at reduced prices. Participating locations will operate from 12:00pm – 5:00pm daily. The menus will be created daily based on food stocks available at the restaurant and in most cases will not be from the current restaurant menu.
