This year, Oyamel honors Ritchie Valens, a Mexican-American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. An icon of rock and roll, Valens’ blending of the traditions of Mexican music with the developing sound of American rock cemented his legendary status as a forefather of Chicano rock.
