The hottest {and most fun} ticket in Washington, DC isn’t to a gala, but to a pie. A pie made by Osteria Morini pastry chef Tova Hillman, and a pie made for the purpose of being thrown into the face of one of Washington, DC’s best chefs and personalities. At the 2017 Osteria Morini Pig Roast on 9/24, attendees can purchase a pie and smash it into the faces of local personalities such as participant and emcee, Fox 5’s Erin Como, Chefs such as Cedric Maupillier of Convivial and Mintwood Place and Brent Kroll of the newly opened Maxwell and those that write about food, including the Washington Post’s Tim Carman and Edible DC’s AJ Dronkers. All in the name of charity, proceeds from the Maialata pie-toss benefit Brainfooda DC based charity using the power of food to engage, empower and employ Washington, DC teens and young adults. “Maialata” takes its name from the traditional festival of the pig held in the mountain towns of northern Italy and at this festive, waterfront festival live music, children’s activities, cocktails and food make for an epic Sunday. Spreads of wood-fired pig, pastas and summer sides by Chef Benjamin Pflaumer are presented with desserts by Pastry Chef Tova Hillman and cocktails, wine/beer and spirits tastings.
