INSIDERS GUIDE TO FREDERICK
Born & Raised in Frederick, Bryan Voltaggio knows more than a little about what’s good in town. He pointed us toward a few great places to check out:
TWIN BEARS BAKERY
Andrew Roy is serious about sourdough.
In an original 150-year-old bakery, Andrew, his wife, Emily Roy, and production manager Jay Switlick turn out hearty handcrafted sourdough loaves and bagels in a newly updated space on Baker’s Row.
Our Fav: The maple syrup in the Valrhona dark chocolate, sour cherry, pecan scones gives these treats an incredibly rich flavor. They break up into satisfying pieces loaded with rich chocolate chunks to be enjoyed with their silky coffee.

ATTABOY BREWING:
Creative and experimental Attaboy turns out a changing set of IPAs, Belgian ales, lagers, and seasonal fruit beers. Hang out with friends in this chill, dog-friendly taproom and beer garden.
Our Fav: KLUDDE—Rustic ale—This tasty farmhouse-style ale is aged six months in stainless barrels, which balances out the flavors nicely. Not too sweet—it tastes like a fresh breeze through your hair.

ZOE’S CHOCOLATES
Tucked into the cutest darn building on Market Street downtown, the third-generation chocolatiers at Zoe’s turn out a dizzying and delicious array of handcrafted chocolate from local ingredients.
Our Fav: The Pinot Noir Fleur de Sel—creamy milk liquid chocolate enrobed in rich dark chocolate and sprinkled with a Pinot Noir–infused Fleur de Sel.

PUMPERNICKEL & RYE
A quick drive up the road in Urbana, business partners Jon Allen and Megan Hook will welcome you to Pump & Rye. Bryan Voltaggio loves their breakfast sandwich with avocado, Gruyère, and thick-cut bacon on multigrain. Kombucha on draft and local groceries have earned Pump & Rye a loyal following.
Our Fav: The Oy Vey All Day is a riff on a classic Reuben minus the Swiss, which showcases both the perfectly cured in-house pastrami and home-baked marble rye.

MCCUTCHEON’S
This fifth-generation, family-owned business has operated at the same location since 1938. Their jams, sauces, and apple butter are staples at farm stands all around the region.
