Columbia Heights Farmers Market
CHFM takes place in the Civic Plaza in the heart of Columbia Heights' commercial district. A true gathering place for the entire community, CHFM runs on both Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings allowing families to enjoy a casual weekend shopping experience and also ensuring busy commuters have a chance to get the best local produce. During the summer months, CFW’s weekday markets serve as an OSSE-sponsored Free Summer Meal Site, where all children and adolescents can receive a free snack or supper. By offering healthy meals at the market, CHFM's goal is for children and parents to discover, taste, and enjoy local food in an environment where it’s also highly affordable. Alongside free summer meals, CHFM provides free adult and youth healthy lifestyle programming through a partnership with the DC Department of Health and SNAP-Ed. The quality and variety of the vendors, the liveliness of the setting, and the diversity of the clientele makes Columbia Heights Farmers Market an integral part of the community where everyone is made to feel welcome.
Fairlington Farm Market
The market was created by a team of Fairlington neighbors who worked for over 2 years to make the dream a reality. Their market is almost 100% volunteer-run with the exception of our day-of market manager. Neighbors pitched in to create the website, develop the logo and marketing materials, enlist sponsors and supporters, research and select vendors, spread the word on social media, help with special events, and set up, take down, and greet customers at the market each week. Fairlington Farmers Market (FFM) is the only market in Arlington that is enclosed in a neighborhood, which brings a fantastic sense of community to the market. A strong majority of shoppers walk to the producer-only market, where they have an ample selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, and prepared foods all grown/made within 125 miles of Arlington. There are 15 amazing vendors who have become part of our Fairlington family and all the vendors give product left over at the end of the market to Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC).
Takoma Park Farmers Market
Established in 1983, the TPFM has been one of the longest running producers-only markets in the DC area. To the TPFM, producers-only means that vendors have to grow what they sell (with limited specified exceptions which allow bread bakers to participate). The farmers all come from within 125 miles of Takoma Park and share the same commitment of offering fresh, sustainably produced food. The market is a Takoma Park institution and a very special weekly meeting place for the community and visitors alike. Takoma Park Farmers Market is the first farmers market in the DMV that is self-governing, run as cooperative by farmers and producers! It is the purest farmers market in DMV, with no reselling, no out-of-season out-of-region products!
